New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer is looking to push its diesel vehicles in the domestic market at a time when demand is at an all-time low. The company has launched a scheme offering free warranty for 5 years or 1 lakh kilometres to customers across the country.
In order to push its diesel vehicles at a time when demand in the domestic market is at an all-time low, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, has launched a scheme wherein the company will offer free warranty for a period of five years or 1 lakh km to its customers across the country.
The development assumes significance since sales of Maruti’s diesel engine powered vehicles have fallen substantially after the company announced its decision to stop manufacturing these vehicles from April 1, 2020, when the BS 6 emission norms will be introduced. Poor demand in the market, a negative perception of diesel as a pollutant and increased competition further affected sales of Maruti’s diesel vehicles.
The warranty scheme will be available on diesel variants of Swift, Vitara Brezza, S-cross and Vitara Brezza.
“Dzire, S-Cross, Swift and Vitara Brezza are our flagship products, which played a pivotal role in transforming not just Maruti Suzuki but the Indian automotive industry itself. These marquee brands are loved for their performance by millions of customers and critics alike. These pioneering brands will continue to play a prominent role in our future product portfolio,” said Shashank Srivastava, executive director, sales and marketing, Maruti Suzuki.
“As a small gesture of our gratitude to admirers and prospective buyers, we are offering a free five-year, 1 lakh km warranty on the entire diesel line-up of these models to ensure a worry-free ownership experience,” added Srivastava.
As the Union government is nudging vehicle manufacturers towards developing electric vehicles, customers have shied away from buying diesel cars. At the end of FY19, Maruti’s diesel vehicle sales stood at 23% of the overall sales of the company.
