When plus-size roles in films weren’t offered, Wilson made her own. And when she didn’t find cool, affordable plus-size clothing in stores, Wilson decided to take matters into her own hands with her new Rebel Wilson x Angels clothing line, which starts at a size 14.
In an exclusive interview with InStyle, the actress shares why curvy girls deserve more shopping options, how she built her confidence, and her plans for opening an amusement park. Yes, seriously.
Despite her cool girl style, Wilson struggled finding places to shop as a plus-size actress.
“I was a young woman making money, and there were no clothes to buy,” she said to InStyle. “It felt like if you were over a certain size, designers didn’t care about you.”
But that’s all changing with the launch of her Rebel Wilson x Angels clothing line, which will let curvy girls everywhere get Wilson’s signature cute-with-an-edge look.
Wilson wanted to design a more classic collection, rather than just trendy pieces that would be outdated rather quickly. However classic doesn’t mean overpriced — most items will be under $100 and will be sold at Nordstrom, Dillard’s, and Lord & Taylor, hopefully both online and IRL stores.
Wilson isn’t afraid of forging her own path, and plans on expanding her brand in endless ways.
“The odds of someone like me making it in Hollywood, I think, are less than the odds of becoming an NFL player if you are an American guy,” she said to InStyle. “I feel like I have always had that inner confidence.”
That means more movies, more clothing lines, and maybe even an amusement park to rival Disneyland.
A Rebel Wilson theme park? We’re ready for it.
